Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the beginning of spring. It is one of the important traditional festivals celebrated by Hans and many of the ethnic minorities of China on the first day of the first lunar month. According to the Han custom, the festival usually lasts from the eighth of the twelfth lunar month of the old year up to the fifteenth of the first lunar month of the new year.
The firecracker is a unique product in China. Setting off firecrackers is one of the most popular customs among the kids in the Spring Festival celebration. In ancient China, the sound of burning bamboo tubes was used to scare away wild animals and evil spirits. Boom-bang-boom-bang, Happy Chinese New Year!
Throughout New Year's Eve, all members of a family get together to enjoy themselves through various entertainments while all rooms are decorated by red candles and colorful lanterns. This custom is referred to as waiting for the New Year, an expression of a strong attachment to the old year and looking forward to the coming new year.
As we know, the festive activities are various and colorful. Taking a family reunion feast is a symbol of a family reunion. I like having some hot pot with my family during the Spring Festival. That’s so good!
Chinese hot pot has a long history. It originated in the north where the main ingredient was beef, mutton or horse. It then spread to southern China during the Tang Dynasty and developed with different ingredients such as seafood.
For hundreds of years-and possibly much longer-millions of Chinese people have felt the same way: They just can't get enough hot pot. It has always been one of China's most popular foods.
The Northeast Chinese hot pot usually contains pork and pickled’ cabbage, while the Guangdong hot pot uses a chicken or a fish broth, and is known for its wide range of ingredients, including seafood In fact, while lamb hot pot is quite popular, almost any kind of ingredient can be found in hot pot cooking. There are as many kinds of hot pots as there are cooks.
Today, the hot pot is one of the most popular forms of cooking in China, and nearly every village, town, and city has one-or several-hot pot restaurants. But why shouldn't hot pot be popular? With a hot pot, you can put in any ingredient that you like. The same pot can serve any number of different meals to the people sitting around the table.
