A Warm Memory: An Unforgettable Trip

                                                          Back to My Hometown

My hometown, Chongqing, is a quiet, peaceful and beautiful city located in the southwest of China. I left there to Guangzhou for my school days when I was three years old. Before that, my grandma took care of me in this southwest city.

I travel back to my hometown once or twice every year because I miss my grandma and the delicious food there. In last summer holiday, I also traveled back to Chongqing. This trip left me with a warm and unforgettable memory.

Before my trip back to my hometown this time, my grandma had been ill and stayed in hospital for more than one month. When I arrived at her home and opened the door, she gave me a warm hug, fondled my face gently, and prepared a lot of home-cooked food for me. I was so happy to see my grandma again. But I started to feel sorry soon because I noticed that my grandma was skinnier, shorter, and weaker than before. She looked rather pale. Her back was bent with age. Her hair was almost all white. I suddenly felt that I had grown up and should take care of her as she took care of me when I was a little baby.

In the following days, I tried to be a little man. I remembered her time for medicine and reminded her to take the pills. I helped her to water and pick the vegetables she grew nearby. I also washed these vegetables, and helped her with cooking. In some evenings, I combed her hair. Previously, I often happily helped to pluck out her grey hair in exchange for snacks. But this time, I only said: “Grandma, you look great with grey hair.”

With my company, my grandma smiled a lot. She started to look better and seemed happier. Her back seemed to become straighter. She also did not look so skinny and pale any more. I bought a bird and tried to teach the bird to call grandma, because I hope that the bird can accompany my grandma after I left. I believed she would perfectly recover from the illness very soon.

When I had to leave my hometown and my grandma, she saw me off at the airport. She hugged me again and said: “I will always be here for you. See you in winter.”

Goodbye, my dear grandma! Goodbye, my dear hometown! What a warm and unforgettable trip.
